I thought some of the SG-1 promo pics were bad. We had the deranged airbrusher of season 10. I thought the season 7 SG-1 pic where Daniel's head had been superimposed over that of Jonas was awful. This S4 Atlantis pic (ergo spoiler!) has to be the absolute pits. Nothing works. Height differences, lighting, McKay and Ronon as hobbits...

Do not click unless you know about season 4 cast:

*shudders* There's more wrongness the more you look. It's like LOTR married The Matrix, then Matrix had a fling with Tron and had its ass baby. And then they became vampires.

It really is the Worst. Promo. Pic. Eva. But for leathery-goodness, check out Rodney's solo picture. Leather!Geek! Hey, it doesn't get any better than this. :)

Rodney, Teyla and (omgsquee!!!!) Ronon all look great in the solo shots. Rodney's jacket looks like it would feel nice and soft. *stroke*

I'm doing that thing where I pretend the pic doesn't exist.

I have this feeling I'll have to do that with half of the episodes of the season.

Besides, I'm not so hot on Rodney with leather jacket on a regular basis. Once or twice all right, but not always.

I miss season 1, when everything was more real.

And AT really looks horrible, even with the photoshop work.

If you're very lucky, the outfits in these shots are just for the promotion of the show. I can't see how Sam can wear that Tron outfit in the episodes given her role.

I'm left wondering if there's any explanation given for the new outfits. I could see maybe changing uniforms because what they had was too recognizable to their enemies in Pegasus, but, um... the leather kinda stands out. Especially Sam's. Why not just say to hell with it and "go native" when out on missions?

I also wonder if perhaps AT had some input into the new outfit, sans USAF regs, and pouted that Claudia Black got to wear all that leather as Vala while she couldn't then, so now it's her turn?

I will refrain from the comment that springs to mind about why she needs leather padding on her knees. I'm showing great restraint here. ::giggle::

Maybe someone saw her in Nightwalkers(?) and thought she looked hot. From what I remember, she did look great in that particular outfit. Problem is, leather is one thing, how you wear it is another. Whoever came up with those nasty nylon-looking pants and decided to slap on what appears to be sports knee pads, should have been pelted with spitballs. Has the outfit been seen in promo pics for the actual episodes?

The only shots from actual episodes I've seen have shown Sam in flight suits like those worn on the Daedalus-class ships.

But I do know David Hewlett has mentioned wearing his leather jacket in some of his postings, so I'm thinking they actually do show up at some point. Perhaps they're considered the "dress" uniform or something?

The "flow" of the fabric and leather is what makes it so wrong on her. It makes her thighs look huge, and I know they're not. AT is an attractive older women (and I'm not too far behind her in age, so I can say older and get away with it *g*), but they keep trying to dress her and do hair and makeup like she's much younger and the effect actually makes her look older. I've seen her at cons, and she looked so much better without the overdone hair and makeup.

That's interesting. Perhaps it'll be their version of undercover rawhide...

Regarding AT. Yeah, she looks great at cons. That's why I can't think this look is coming from her. The hair I get, it's a novelty after 10 years of having the studio and military insisting on how she wear it, but I'll never believe she chose those hideous trousers. ;-P

It's also possible I've only seen the flightsuit because of the storyline setup in the beginning of the season indicates that's what she'd be wearing because she's in command of the Apollo and not Atlantis at that point.

I understand the hair too. I know she'd get extensions during hiatus, and women in the military can wear longer hair within certain limits anyway, so I don't know why they didn't make allowances a long time ago.

I think the new look is symbolic of the final break from the "old school" of SG-1, where many of the characters were supposed to be members of the US military thrust into adventures on other worlds.

That had been fading for years on SG-1 anyway, but they were still paying lip service to it because of the USAF advisor, but SGA didn't have that restriction -- and there's no need to borrow USAF equipment anymore when everything has been "sci fi-ed" and they can create any weapons, ships, etc. they want.

Poor Amanda - the design of those trousers, particularly with the leather bits, makes it look like she has thunder thighs. And she absolutely doesn't. Who the heck thought that was a good idea? The hair looks stupid too.

It amazes me how they can take an attractive woman with a lovely figure and do *that*. I'd wonder if it was because wardrobe is used to dressing men because of the make up of the cast, but Atlantis had two female actors on the main cast and several supporting actors. I don't get it.

Not only do they not have shadows, but it looks like they're floating in the air.

Both McKay and Ronon are shrinking. McKay looks like a Munchkin, while Ronon is now shorter than Teyla.

I think it's obvious that they didn't actually pose for a group picture together, but it was Photoshopped together from individual shots.

I've heard looking at the hi-res version is even worse, but I haven't actually seen it. I don't think I want to. ;)

Last year they took some horrible pics, and then the show turned to be ok.

plus I have seen the first two episodes and I could bear with that level of Sam

Still, I dont' trust these people. Right now, better not to have much faith and be pleasantly surprised.

I've seen several comment they could handle the level of Sam they saw in the first two episodes, but I don't think it's going to truly become Spamlantis until later. They've got to get her established first. TPTB are not completely stupid. ;)

But then I'm one who immediately thought the "leak" was of the "accidentally on purpose" variety because TPTB are running scared about fan reactions. They know there's a checklist of things a given fan could be upset about, and the renewal decision will only have a few episodes of season four coming into play, so they're probably very nervous in Bridge-land.

I'm going to wait until things are further along before I even attempt to watch. I watched SG-1 begin the slow slide at the beginning of season four... coincidentally when Mallozzi and Mullie joined up (they're now showrunners on Atlantis) and Sam started being pushed between Jack and Daniel. I can't watch it happen again. Not good for my blood pressure. ;)

Yeah, I agree. I don't think these two episodes are the rule of the rest, but they certainly stopped some fan outcry, which backs up the leak not being that accidental. That makes a lot of sense.

Those two episodes had enough John and Rodney to keep many fans satisfied, which is good for M&M. Despite that, I am not going to start trusting those two, who in a good day are very mediocre writers and on a bad day could ruin any show you think of.

I'm pretty sure this will be like SG-1 season 4, when everying was ruined. It's the same, and as you say, Mallozzi and Mullie are there in the middle of the mess. I wish I could do like you, but I can't help myself and will watch the whole thing, just as I did with Sg-1 (Minus some season 6 because I couldn't bear it).

I wouldn't trust M&M any further than I could throw them. Mallozzi just has way too much fun trying to intentionally piss fans off. The unintionally pissing off fans is just a bonus for him. To be honest, Sam being there I might could have ignored, but M&M seem to worship the ground she walks on, so with them in charge... no, I'll pass for now.

I'll probably eventually watch it, but from a distance, as in when the DVDs come out. I'll have already heard the feedback from fans, so I'll know if there's anything Irresistable/Irresponsible worthy to avoid, that sort of thing.

I still haven't watched the end of season three. I'd actually downloaded it, but the news of Sam's move and M&M in charge came out right about the time Sunday was coming up, and I basically said, "Screw it." It was just too much happening at once, and I didn't want to deal with it after all the drama in SG-1 fandom. I didn't watch it on Sci Fi and haven't gotten around to watching the downloads either (though I know what happens), much like I never got around to watching a lot of SG-1's 6th season.

In my perfect world, someone would post some "best of" clips from each episode (especially John/Rodney stuff). I'm actually following a storyline from a soap opera this way, watching five minutes of the show every few days instead of an hour each day hoping the part I'm interested in will air that day.

Someone got paid to create that image. Maybe it's not the image. Maybe they decided to save money this season and use child actors for long shots. *peers closely at Rononlite and mini-McKay* Check that hi-res version when you see it.

There was a discussion about how bad the Atlantis shots (as well as SG-1's) were in someone else's LJ not long ago. My lament then and now is that not only was someone paid to create the image, but someone approved the image.

And sadly, fans generally have "fixed" versions out within 24 hours that look like they should have in the first place, and I'm not talking about the shippy and slashy versions either. ;)

I can't take the approval process for Stargate related items seriously. We were given ... bobblehead SG-1.

Fans are wonderful. I love their creativity and ingenuity. You're right, fixed versions will surface and the McKay and Ronon hobbits will be no more.

Argh. I'd forgotten the bobbleheads. Why'd you make me remember them?

Wait, wait... we've got McKay and Ronon as hobbits, and Sheppard was already an elf with those ears. What does that make Teyla and Sam? The Good Witch of Athos and the Wicked Witch of Atlantis? [ducking rotten fruit thrown by Sam fans] ;)

*bounce* *bob* *wobble*

I think Sam was Galadriel aka the Good Tokra in 200. Having looked at the pic again, I think Ronon is actually Gimli. This makes me sad.

Some thoughts, not very deep...

* SG-1 promo pics are notoriously and riotously bad.
* SOOO glad I am not alone in my belief of Season 10 Airbrushers Gone Wild
* OMG *dies laughing* now I will have to go find a Season 7 promo pic (if anyone has one, please reply with link to share!)
* Season 4 Atlantis pic...I think someone out there can photoshop that better. Say, with Sam and John facing each other, which might make some sense of the Leaning Towards Dominatrix look that Sam is sporting while in Pegasus Galaxy.

**** And, I love, no adore, your icon...can you who me the money? I have read a grand total of ONE such fictional proof...that pairing has me at Hello! See, look at my icon. Daniel's already thinkin' evil naughty thoughts

Amazing, isn't it, how bad the promo pics can be given what a good looking cast they have?

Here ya go. I couldn't find the exact same pic with identical background. Season 6 promo with Jonas: http://scoop.diamondgalleries.com/news_images/924_1857_1.jpg
Season 7 promo and Michael's head is truly "pastede on yay". Or something like that:

I'll be writing one and I'm hoping others who are intrigued by the idea of all that hotness in one concentrated sweaty-thrusting-growling sexy package... Er. I was saying something... Oh, yes. Others who find the idea stimulating will (hopefully) go off and write some. And if they don't, I may have to use large fonts with many !!!!!!! and emo-icons in their journals until they cave. I have no shame.
