Worst. Promo. Pic. Evah!
Sep. 12th, 2007 07:35 pmI thought some of the SG-1 promo pics were bad. We had the deranged airbrusher of season 10. I thought the season 7 SG-1 pic where Daniel's head had been superimposed over that of Jonas was awful. This S4 Atlantis pic (ergo spoiler!) has to be the absolute pits. Nothing works. Height differences, lighting, McKay and Ronon as hobbits...

Date: 2007-09-12 07:43 pm (UTC)I have this feeling I'll have to do that with half of the episodes of the season.
Besides, I'm not so hot on Rodney with leather jacket on a regular basis. Once or twice all right, but not always.
I miss season 1, when everything was more real.
And AT really looks horrible, even with the photoshop work.

Date: 2007-09-12 07:50 pm (UTC)Both McKay and Ronon are shrinking. McKay looks like a Munchkin, while Ronon is now shorter than Teyla.
I think it's obvious that they didn't actually pose for a group picture together, but it was Photoshopped together from individual shots.
I've heard looking at the hi-res version is even worse, but I haven't actually seen it. I don't think I want to. ;)

Date: 2007-09-12 08:20 pm (UTC)plus I have seen the first two episodes and I could bear with that level of Sam
Still, I dont' trust these people. Right now, better not to have much faith and be pleasantly surprised.

Date: 2007-09-12 08:59 pm (UTC)* SG-1 promo pics are notoriously and riotously bad.
* SOOO glad I am not alone in my belief of Season 10 Airbrushers Gone Wild
* OMG *dies laughing* now I will have to go find a Season 7 promo pic (if anyone has one, please reply with link to share!)
* Season 4 Atlantis pic...I think someone out there can photoshop that better. Say, with Sam and John facing each other, which might make some sense of the Leaning Towards Dominatrix look that Sam is sporting while in Pegasus Galaxy.
**** And, I love, no adore, your icon...can you who me the money? I have read a grand total of ONE such fictional proof...that pairing has me at Hello! See, look at my icon. Daniel's already thinkin' evil

Date: 2007-09-12 09:05 pm (UTC)But then I'm one who immediately thought the "leak" was of the "accidentally on purpose" variety because TPTB are running scared about fan reactions. They know there's a checklist of things a given fan could be upset about, and the renewal decision will only have a few episodes of season four coming into play, so they're probably very nervous in Bridge-land.
I'm going to wait until things are further along before I even attempt to watch. I watched SG-1 begin the slow slide at the beginning of season four... coincidentally when Mallozzi and Mullie joined up (they're now showrunners on Atlantis) and Sam started being pushed between Jack and Daniel. I can't watch it happen again. Not good for my blood pressure. ;)

Date: 2007-09-12 09:08 pm (UTC)And sadly, fans generally have "fixed" versions out within 24 hours that look like they should have in the first place, and I'm not talking about the shippy and slashy versions either. ;)

Date: 2007-09-12 09:16 pm (UTC)I also wonder if perhaps AT had some input into the new outfit, sans USAF regs, and pouted that Claudia Black got to wear all that leather as Vala while she couldn't then, so now it's her turn?
I will refrain from the comment that springs to mind about why she needs leather padding on her knees. I'm showing great restraint here. ::giggle::

Date: 2007-09-12 09:41 pm (UTC)Fans are wonderful. I love their creativity and ingenuity. You're right, fixed versions will surface and the McKay and Ronon hobbits will be no more.

Date: 2007-09-12 09:43 pm (UTC)But I do know David Hewlett has mentioned wearing his leather jacket in some of his postings, so I'm thinking they actually do show up at some point. Perhaps they're considered the "dress" uniform or something?
The "flow" of the fabric and leather is what makes it so wrong on her. It makes her thighs look huge, and I know they're not. AT is an attractive older women (and I'm not too far behind her in age, so I can say older and get away with it *g*), but they keep trying to dress her and do hair and makeup like she's much younger and the effect actually makes her look older. I've seen her at cons, and she looked so much better without the overdone hair and makeup.

Date: 2007-09-12 10:19 pm (UTC)Wait, wait... we've got McKay and Ronon as hobbits, and Sheppard was already an elf with those ears. What does that make Teyla and Sam? The Good Witch of Athos and the Wicked Witch of Atlantis? [ducking rotten fruit thrown by Sam fans] ;)

Date: 2007-09-12 10:28 pm (UTC)Here ya go. I couldn't find the exact same pic with identical background. Season 6 promo with Jonas: http://scoop.diamondgalleries.com/news_images/924_1857_1.jpg
Season 7 promo and Michael's head is truly "pastede on yay". Or something like that:

*Pets icon* Alas, Ronon/Daniel hasn't taken over the fandom...YET! I'm guessing the one fic you read was this one:
http://lovellama.livejournal.com/108862.html
I'll be writing one and I'm hoping others who are intrigued by the idea of all that hotness in one concentrated sweaty-thrusting-growling sexy package... Er. I was saying something... Oh, yes. Others who find the idea stimulating will (hopefully) go off and write some. And if they don't, I may have to use large fonts with many !!!!!!! and emo-icons in their journals until they cave. I have no shame.

Date: 2007-09-12 10:34 pm (UTC)Regarding AT. Yeah, she looks great at cons. That's why I can't think this look is coming from her. The hair I get, it's a novelty after 10 years of having the studio and military insisting on how she wear it, but I'll never believe she chose those hideous trousers. ;-P

I think Sam was Galadriel aka the Good Tokra in 200. Having looked at the pic again, I think Ronon is actually Gimli. This makes me sad.

Date: 2007-09-13 12:44 am (UTC)I understand the hair too. I know she'd get extensions during hiatus, and women in the military can wear longer hair within certain limits anyway, so I don't know why they didn't make allowances a long time ago.
I think the new look is symbolic of the final break from the "old school" of SG-1, where many of the characters were supposed to be members of the US military thrust into adventures on other worlds.
That had been fading for years on SG-1 anyway, but they were still paying lip service to it because of the USAF advisor, but SGA didn't have that restriction -- and there's no need to borrow USAF equipment anymore when everything has been "sci fi-ed" and they can create any weapons, ships, etc. they want.

word choice, ankh. Oh, the word choice...please, be shameless! this makes me wish I knew how to write porn! and yup, that was the one story I read.

Date: 2007-09-13 09:56 am (UTC)Yeah, I agree. I don't think these two episodes are the rule of the rest, but they certainly stopped some fan outcry, which backs up the leak not being that accidental. That makes a lot of sense.
Those two episodes had enough John and Rodney to keep many fans satisfied, which is good for M&M. Despite that, I am not going to start trusting those two, who in a good day are very mediocre writers and on a bad day could ruin any show you think of.
I'm pretty sure this will be like SG-1 season 4, when everying was ruined. It's the same, and as you say, Mallozzi and Mullie are there in the middle of the mess. I wish I could do like you, but I can't help myself and will watch the whole thing, just as I did with Sg-1 (Minus some season 6 because I couldn't bear it).

Date: 2007-09-13 02:13 pm (UTC)I'll probably eventually watch it, but from a distance, as in when the DVDs come out. I'll have already heard the feedback from fans, so I'll know if there's anything Irresistable/Irresponsible worthy to avoid, that sort of thing.
I still haven't watched the end of season three. I'd actually downloaded it, but the news of Sam's move and M&M in charge came out right about the time Sunday was coming up, and I basically said, "Screw it." It was just too much happening at once, and I didn't want to deal with it after all the drama in SG-1 fandom. I didn't watch it on Sci Fi and haven't gotten around to watching the downloads either (though I know what happens), much like I never got around to watching a lot of SG-1's 6th season.
In my perfect world, someone would post some "best of" clips from each episode (especially John/Rodney stuff). I'm actually following a storyline from a soap opera this way, watching five minutes of the show every few days instead of an hour each day hoping the part I'm interested in will air that day.
