Date: 2007-07-13 08:24 pm (UTC)I wasn't keen on the season 5 sideburns. *shudder* Seasons 4 and 6 I can see the attraction, especially in 4 when we had Absolute Power and The Curse, where he was exceptionally yummy.

Date: 2007-07-13 08:25 pm (UTC)Actually, I like Daniel after season 5, there are some episodes in there (Abyss, Orpheus, Reckoning) that are favourites of mine, but still, the first three seasons are good overall, then there was so much stuff that ruined the show.

Date: 2007-07-13 08:33 pm (UTC)I'm usually not one for facial hair, but I hated the floppy hair that he had in the early seasons more I guess. I liked it when he lost the innocent young scholar look, and beame more of the hardened guy who I expect after what he had gone through. Not the standard opinion on fandom, but it worked for me. :)

Date: 2007-07-13 09:02 pm (UTC)I sometimes mourn for the loss of the more innocent Daniel, but I can still see the essence of younger Daniel in hardened Daniel of recent seasons. I think it makes sense, and seems a logical progression for the character, so I'm happy to go with the change. He's still a good man trying to do the right thing. Pretty much any Daniel is attractive to me, but season 3 is my favourite.

Date: 2007-07-13 09:10 pm (UTC)I agree that the first three seasons stand apart from the rest. While season 3 Daniel is my favourite, there are scenes and episodes from all seasons that I love. Daniel in Origin may not be season 3 Daniel, but he still takes my breath away.

Date: 2007-07-14 02:46 am (UTC)That's so true. We started watching season 1 on DVD sometimes during the airing of season 8 and when seaason 7 was in syndication. I wasn't even aware that the show was still on, but my daughter and I (who both loved Daniel) happened to see a bit of a season 7 episode, and we were both so...er...floored. Season 7 Daniel was *hot*. *g* Season 2 Daniel was so adorable cute, but even in season 3 he was hotter. *g*
I still love the floppy hair, though--especially with the boony hat. I loved it whenever he wore a boony hat any time after he had short hair, because he looked just like season 2 Daniel again. *g*
Pretty much any Daniel is attractive to me, but season 3 is my favourite.
Yeah, I said season 2, but now I remember when I was first watching the show, season 3 was my favorite, too. I liked that *look* on him anyway--even the Hamlet haircut. *g*

Date: 2007-07-14 10:32 am (UTC)I do have a very, very soft spot for Adorkable!Daniel of early seasons, however. Floppy hair included!
Smartest-wise, couldn't decide because I love his brain in every ep, so went for the mostly naked option ... but then again, who wouldn't ;-)

Date: 2007-07-14 11:11 am (UTC)I, too, had problem with deciding which was the scene for extra brainy Daniel. As you say, mostly naked tips the balance...

Date: 2007-07-14 11:21 am (UTC)And I'm sure the floppy hair wouldn't suit him now. Much too grown-up and all. :-)

Date: 2007-07-14 11:44 am (UTC)Boonie Daniel is a favourite for me, too. There's something about the strap across his throat when he has it tipped back. Deadman Switch from season 3 is perfect for that.
As for the Hamlet haircut, I remember the moment in Out of Mind when the panel slid back and we saw Daniel with his short hair, bare chest and covered in condensation. Guh! I whimpered out loud for that one. Total, but welcome, surprise.

Date: 2007-07-14 02:21 pm (UTC)I think Shippy Sam's Wig O'Doom runs it a very close second, though. AU Sam had obviously never heard of conditioner.
All this talk of hair ... we'll be on to boonies and bandanas next ;-)

Date: 2007-07-15 06:29 am (UTC)Yeah. Early season 7 Daniel had a softness about him when he was still trying to find his memories. I can tell screencaps from that season by the 'fluffiness' of his hair amd softness of his face.
Yeah, it was just such a shock to see him like that, when I'd only seen season 1 Daniel up to that point. *g* I remember
