  1. blackadder:
The final episode of Blackadder Goes Forth remains for me one of the most gut-wrenching and shocking scenes in televsion.
  2. crowley/aziraphale:
A fairly old interest (since the book came out) but a new fandom when Lori pointed me in the direction of fanfic and Brenda started sending fanart goodies she'd discovered.
  3. discworld:
Terry Pratchett is a genius. Granny Weatherwax and Vimes are two of my favourites characters ever in any medium.
  4. fanfic:
The creativity of fans continues to amaze me, sometimes baffles me and sometimes send me screaming off to the bathroom to scrub out my brain. One of the biggest joys of being in fandom.
  5. good omens:
See Crowley/Aziraphale. Good Omens is written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The rumoured casting of Robin Williams as Aziraphale has me howling in protest but Johnny Depp as Crowley would be perfectly delicious.
  6. logan cale:
The true pretty in Dark Angel. Michael Weatherley sucked me right into this show though the Joshua mutant storyline sent me scurrying away again. There should be more Logan/Alec fic, dammit.
  7. ncis:
One of the few shows where I like all the characters. Well...that was the case until the new director showed up. Insert rant about bloody flashbacks and Madam Moo Eyes *here*
  8. stargate:
My One Twu Wuv. No matter how much they screw up the show I will always love my SG-1 family and my darling Daniel Jackson.
  9. the charndras:
Lori's wonderful creation that infected my brain to the extent I watched Return of the King last night, saw Legolas looking cleaned up, and thought 'Freyadis is prettier'. I love this world and not just because of the welcome number of very pretty men inhabiting it. I even like the main female character/heroine so far, Caladras - everything a kickass chick should be.
  10. tony/abby:
These two together are fabulous. They're not brother/sister, they're not oozing UST, they're not opposite sides of the same coin. They're more complex than that. They have a bit of everything thrown in making their interactions interesting, quirky and multi-faceted. They can be so many things with each other and it all feels in character.

Oops! Just saw you'd replied!

"People would just post what they thought without commenting on what anyone else said, and I also wondered if these people were even watching the same show. *g*"

For me, most of the fun of posting about the episode is to have a discussion. Otherwise, what's the point of posting an opinion?

"What's interesting to me is that I can often tell fanfic which was written as the show was new and which is written now by people who have been long-time fans and/or have studied the show intently. *g* I also find that the new fanfic by authors new to the show also mirrors that--their early stories seem similar to those of others who watched the show and wrote fic years ago *g* and then it changes as they see more of the show. Well, if they are really good authors, that is. *g* So I can see that they, too, are getting to know the characters in the same way that I did and that more long-time fans did and sometimes having the same story points (i.e. episode/storyline fixes). Everyone wants to fix or explain or expand on the same things, if they approach the show from a certain perspective (Daniel *g*)."

There's something very pure about the early fic, untarnished by agendas and disputes. Odd thing - I was editing some old fic of mine from the early years (back when dinosaurs used the gate) and I was amazed how often I had Jack calling Sam "Sam" and not Carter. Now, I know he rarely did call her Sam but back then I guess having him call her Sam matched the ideal in my head of SG-1 as family and friends. I just had to edit a fic a couple of days ago with that problem. In the end I changed some "Sam" to "Carter" but I couldn't bear to part with them all even though, according to the show, he very rarely does that.

I hadn't really noted the similarity between the early fic and new fic written by fandom newbies. I like that, gives a sense of the torch being passed on and hope that there will always be a place for 'OMG It's So New and Shiny!' fic. :-)

"Yes. It's just amazing to me and it's impossible to explain to someone who doesn't know fanfic. There is some horrid fic out there and there's some that's great except for the lack of a good beta *g*, but for the most part, I've been very impressed, especially in this fandom."

As with any pursuit that involves amateurs, you're going to get a very mixed bag of talent. :-) I have respect for anyone who has the guts to create a fic and put it out there for public consumption.

"My favorite part of that site is being able to search by episode for episode-related fics."

That's mine, too! I've often watched an episode, wished it had ended better, and gone to Stargatefan to see if there are any tags that will give me the ending I desire.
