Ripple Effect Comments
Jan. 23rd, 2006 12:22 amI had to lower the rating of last week's Collateral Damage as this one rated an 'Excellent' from me and was far superior.
The negatives? The technobabble was boring so I just tuned it out. The 'Sam's wuv life' stuff was a little too much given none of the others were playing the Noah's ark game but it didn't annoy me - this might be because I didn't feel they were pushing their usual S/J angle and I didn't feel Sam was as fixated on it as she has been. I've no idea if there were science-y plot holes as I tuned out the why and how of it all because it was dull.
Everything else I enjoyed, all the interactions, the glimpses of other teams, it was fun and I rewound several times to enjoy scenes again. I liked how Black Mitchell pointed out that the SGC could all be some eleborate hoax/trap. Liked the mention of events from past episodes such as Out of Mind. Black Daniel pointing out the 'C' option was so Daniel - he and our Mitchell had an interesting chemistry and Mitchell knowing the coffee Daniel liked and how he took it was a nice touch. The Black SG-1 fooled me and I'd have loved their extra scene to have been included. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing that team again. Very intriguing and with a darker edge to them. Our SG-1 getting the drop on them was good to see.
Almost all of the scenes that were cut would have made the episode so much better, though I'm glad we were spared PDL's version of the elevator scene as combined with honeymooner Sam, 'OMG it's Martouf' Sam and maternity leave Sam it would have been excessive. The mention of Sha're was such a wonderful idea. Well done M and M (whoever had the idea) for writing it in the first place and a hearty boo and raspberry to whoever decided cutting it favour of excessive technobabble was a good idea - it really wasn't. Hopefully, we'll get to see the cut scenes on the DVDs.
The highlight for me has to be seeing Janet. Teryl is a bad woman and MS is a bad man. They made me cry. That last scene where they hugged had me in tears. Teal'c hugged her like she might break and Daniel looked like he was trying to pull her in and keep her there. *sniffs* I like Lam but after so many years I really love Janet. I hope they find some way of bringing her back permanently and have the two doctors working together.
