Scary New NCIS Development

The latest episodes of NCIS are worrying me. Gibbs has gone from 'Second B for Bastard' to 'Piss off then if you don't want to be around you miserable old fart'. I'm finding him thoroughly unappealing right now ( though, interestingly, the less appealing they make Gibbs the more appealing they're making Tony, who appears to have matured in all the right ways). More terrifyingly, Madame Director...is OK. Not annoying. Episode 3 I liked her. Yes, you read that right. It seems all they had to do with her was stop with the annoying flashbacks and Be Nice to Tony. Huh.

Hm. It sounds like NCIS hasn't quite reached the "worth watching again" status yet?

I work on Tuesday nights, and I keep forgetting to set the VCR. So far, I haven't missed it. Tony and McGee are my favorite characters, I detest Madame, love Abby and Ducky, like Palmer, and tolerate Ziva. I miss the old Gibbs and can't decide if it's worth running the risk of wanting to throw something through the screen if tptb are going to pursue warping his character as they did in last season's finale.

*sigh* Decisions, decisions. (all memory issues aside).

Tony and McGee have had some lovely scenes. Actually, Tony and everyone have had some lovely scenes. It's one of the advantages of Gibbs not being around so much.

It's so weird, like some kind of alternate reality. Gibbs is being an arse of the highest order and MD isn't annoying. Is this a different series?

Like you, I'm not liking the "new" Gibbs all that much, but like the improements in Tony.

I think the reason Madame Director is not as annoying is they seem to be using Gibbs' memory loss as a sort of retcon to do away with the UST and flashbacks, which was a major annoyance for many.

I still want the real Gibbs back, sans the pornstache.

Ick! The Porn Stache has got to go soon. It's hideous. Makes Teal'c's season 4 caterpillar look teh sex in comparison. As for Jen, you could be right. She's also acting like a director, not like a needy chick using some past fling as a way to control Gibbs.

It does seem like previously Madame Director's main purpose was to be Gibbs' ex-girlfriend and not Gibbs' director. Maybe this will continue even if Gibbs gets his full memory back? One can hope.

Interesting! I don't watch NCIS, but I've noticed on other shows how little it takes sometimes to turn an annoying character into a very acceptable one.

I think people want to like characters and are willing to forgive and move on if what's bugging them is fixed. Most people I'm sure aren't watching shows hoping to find a character that will annoy the crap out of them. I'm hoping the fix continues.
