Here be spoilers...

I'm still squeeing over this one. Fantastic episode that entertained me both times I watched it. Exactly the type of adventure I love most, that same combination of action and adventure, with danger and puzzles to figure out that Indiana Jones has made so popular. It had the same feel as Avalon 2, which was one of the highlights of season 9 for me. The team was together throughout (yay!) and everyone contributed, but Sam and Daniel definitely had the major roles, with Daniel in the limelight because of his Ascended past and the nature of the quest. I can't squee enough about Daniel in this one. If I hadn't already been crushing on him since season 1 I'd have fallen hard for him after this. Intelligent, courageous and so hot the walls were melting around him (see, Lex, that's why the wall was squishy in the fire wall scene).

I loved all the interactions between the team members. The opening scene was especially satisfying, with Daniel in snark mode about 'just' trying to find the weapon to save the galaxy. *pets* Bless Teal'c for realizing that Daniel needed to talk about his findings so far and for halting Mitchell. See, Cameron, Teal'c can read Daniel's moods and knows what he needs, so start taking notes and lessons. Knowing how Daniel likes his coffee isn't enough, sweetie.

The non-verbal touches were cute - Vala's head on Sam's shoulder, the pats, the exchanged glances at various points such as Daniel and Vala when searching the chest. It was good to see Vala having time with all the team members. I love Daniel and Vala having teh hot steamy sex together but it does mean less of other combinations. Daniel and Sam got to play together, as did Sam and Vala, which was nice to see. I was a little wary of Baal being in this one as I've not been too thrilled with his recent appearances (or rather the use of his character) but I was pleasantly surprised. The Knife of Sentimental Value: ooh, nice touch. Surely has to be the one from Abyss. Both Baal and Adria were interesting additions. The OOC bits with Adria were explained later as lack of her powers, as was Vala's 'It came to me in a dream' bit of convenience, so I was happy to have those niggly things explained. Adria's fixation on Daniel continues and really, I can't blame her. Sure, sweetie, say it's his previously ascended status. I know it's the new glasses.

Excellent casting of guests. A bar maid who wasn't a buxom 19 year old with her bosom thrust out, but instead was an average looking woman who helped our heroes and seemed like she'd be an interesting person, if only we had time to get to know her.

I've been seeing comments about the dragon being dumb and silly. I can only assume the CGI looks bad on a big screen because on a 349mb download it looked great. A believable dragon that looked like something that could have evolved from pteranodon, capable of flight, rather than the traditional lumbering beastie so popular in fantasy that couldn't fly without several tons of c4 up its bottom.

Overall, great stuff. Best ep of the season so far and quite the ending.

Adria: "Do you really want to test me?"
Daniel: "Yep."

Oh, Daniel. You rocked so very hard they felt tremors in Narnia.

Yep. Excellent. Sweaty, determined Daniel? Awesome.

As for the dragon, I'd been happier if the back legs weren't shaped like they were human legs in a dragon suit. I'd prefer leaner reptile legs, but I did love the wings.

Saw your review on your lj. It's so good to see so many positive reviews on this one. It's one I know I'll go back to.
