Just saw GOF. As I haven't read the books (the first one put me to sleep after 20 pages - yeah, I'm probably eternally damned for saying that) I have a question for those who read the books and saw GOF. The scene at the ball, when Ron is wearing the horrible robe his mum sent. Why doesn't he use magic to create some decent clothes?

That would be transfiguration, which is relatively difficult. The last time he tried it onscreen, he turned his pet rat into a furry teacup with a tail (he was trying for water goblet). Of course, we can assume he's improved since then...

Thanks for the explanation. You'd think Harry would be capable of something like that if Ron wasn't as he's supposed to be a hotshot wizard in the making. Didn't Draco turn a wand into a snake or something?

Harry's great at Defense Against the Dark Arts. I'm not sure how good he is at Transfiguration.

Honestly, Rowling didn't mention why he didn't in the books. I'm just trying to come up with a reasonable reason. ;)

The SO just reminded me that Ron took all the lace off with severing charms in the book.
