I'm clearing my hard drive (8GB cleared! Hooyah!) and the WIPs are mocking me. I'm going to post any snippets that will never grow up to be fully fledged stories because the other snippets are taking up more of the nest.

S. O. P.
It always started this way:
A mission that held more than the usual amount of trauma, perhaps a near loss of life.
A glance some time between hitting the showers and debriefing, a questioning look from Daniel, an affirmative nod from Jack.
Two beers for Daniel.
Four beers for Jack.
And then -
Daniel lived for 'and then'.
It always started that way - modus operandi
It was how it was - modus vivendi. It could still take his breath away. And they didn't even call it love. They never used that word. Truth be told, they never used words at all. But it was, and was how it should be.
And Daniel saw the nod Colonel Jack O'Neill gave him and knew it would happen tonight.

Do NOT consign this snippet to the file of never-going-to-be-written. This has wonderful possibilities written all over it.
I so see them dealing with pain and trauma this way; a mutual understaning that it will help get them through.
Loved "Daniel lived for 'and then'" because, yes, he would. "And they didn't even call it love" slayed me.
*Gets out whip and taps it impatiently on hand* This needs to be fleshed out Ankh ... don't make me come over there ....

Bless you. :-) It's been sat on my pc since 2002, so it's unlikely to grow into something bigger. Perhaps if I let it go I'll want to return to it instead of leaving it, neglected and unloved, with the other snippets. Do you ever have snipets lying around or are you more disciplined than me and actually finish them?

Well, *rubs halo and stretches wings* I try to be a good girl about not leaving things unfinished, an aspiration I usually only achieve with cake, ice cream and Butterkist popcorn. However, there are one or two (okay, more than that) snippets clogging up the hard drive, including a never-finshed h/c story which dates back to my S&H fandom days ... a looong time ago, and I *still* feel guilty about not finishing it. It's actually 40 pages long, so not really a snippet at all, but it still haunts me and I *know* I'll never finish it.
There's also the beginnings of a J/D story which I'm rather fond of but became bogged down in mission detail, causing me to look at it, shrug my shoulders and find *anything* else at all to write instead. Which is dumb, because I actually rather like it ...
All of which is a long-winded way of saying yep, guilty as charged ;-))
Maybe offering up unwanted snippets to adoptive "parents" would be a good idea? Give them a new, loving home where they can achieve their full potential in life? Just a thought!

An adoption service for abandoned plot bunnies. I like that. :-)

I tried posting an unfinished fic in my lj a while back, hoping it would prompt me to finish. Well *that* didn't work.

LOL. I do that but it usually involves becoming distracted by piles of stuff to sort out rather than writing. [livejournal.com profile] elgrey calls it 'cleaning tennis shoes'. :-D

Top distraction for me (when I'm in fandom mode) is watching songvids. I suddenly realise I simply *have* to go through them, put them in some sort of order, re-arrange the folders, re-categorize them .... I'm *very* easily distracted.
After that, it's "Well, must be time for a cup of tea and Jaffa cake".
