Oh shit

Today was eventful to say the least.

Had a great time with Lex, despite Cafe Nero's lack of chocolate fudge cake. Helped put a table together. Stroked cats. Had a lovely time chatting. The drive home proved not so enjoyable. An accident happened about 15 feet in front of my car. Poor driver clipped a parked car and flipped his car. Right over. Onto its roof. It was shocking how easily it went over. Clearly VW makes sturdy frames because, despite landing hard on the roof, the roof didn't buckle. Passengers were fine, thank goodness. I was pleased to see how many people got out of their vehicles to help instead of driving on. Spent half an hour getting rained on while letting other drivers behind me know what had happened and to give a statement to the police.

More 'fun' was to follow. I'm not familiar with the area so when nice policeman told me I could get back on course by taking such-and-such a road I followed his advice. I must have missed a turning because I ended up travelling down a narrow country lane in the middle of nowhere, which apparently led on to roads that went in two directions: More Nowhere and Back of Beyond. So I'm driving along, it's pitch black because there are no lights, the road is winding, narrow and full of large puddles. I have no clue where I am. It's pouring with rain, so much my windscreen wipers are on double speed. The wind is picking up and either side of me are trees. Big trees. Trees that have lost branches during the recent gales, going by the debris at the sides of the road. It's at this point I start getting that shaky tearful feeling of mild shock. Bloody lousy timing.

Huh. Not sure why I'm posting this as I don't really use my lj for life stuff. Maybe I just need to write it down because it still doesn't seem real. The car flipped like it was in a movie stunt. Cars shouldn't be able to do that, not at 29 miles an hour damn it, and not when there's a kid in the back.

Glad you made it home ok. I have to admit I was having flashes of the Torchwood ep where the girl is driving in the dark along a loney stretch of road... but you made it home. yays!

Thanks. :-) As for Torchwood, I haven't seen many episodes but I can state for the record that I saw no fairies, aliens or monsters or naked Jack. I'm glad I wasn't thinking of horror movies and scary dramas as I was driving. ;-P

It's frightening to watch an accident; the one time I saw a major car accident, it seemed to happen in slow motion, with no sound. I was on an overpass, and the car came from a road below the one I was travelling on; it just seemed to launch itself into the air, flipped slowly and went right back down. Then it was chaos.

I'm glad you made it home (you don't say that you did, but you're writing this, so I assume you're at home). I hope that you're feeling less shocky now, and that the rest of your weekend goes better!

This Torchwood was doubly scary because it was us, humans, that were doing the horrific stuff. :(

Oh dear. It sounds like a warm blanket and cup of brandy-spiked-something is called for. I'm sorry you had to witness that, and that you had such a rotten, scary drive home. And I am sorry those poor people in the other car had that happen to them.

Curl up with Daniel -- that helps everything ;-).

That's a pretty intense thing to witness. It's great everyone was fine, but still. I'd feel shaken.

(((((ankh)))))

What a horrible thing to have witnessed, and then getting lost. I'm glad you are home and safe. Be gentle with yourself for the next few days. You've had quite a traumatic experience and may well feel a bit off kilter. If you need to talk, you have my phone number.

*hugs*

What a horrible thing to witness, but thank goodness everyone was okay. To follow that by getting lost going home must have shaken you up, so take care of yourself with lots of coddling. And naked Jacks and Daniels as required.

It was seeing the kid that really shook me. They appeared to be fine, just shaken up. The poor driver had been driving perfectly up to that point, he just seemed to misjudge where the other car was in relation to his own, which given the light conditions and heavy rain was easily done.

I find curling up with Daniel really does solve everything. The UN should hire him. ;-P

Shaken but so relieved it wasn't worse for everyone. If people had been driving closer rather than being sensible... I have to say, the speed cameras on that road probably do save lives, despite being a pain in the mikta.
