This story tells the harrowing tale of a kitten who was saved from being thrown in the trash and given a home alongside a community of street cats, all of whom have no home and were all too happy to help their feline friend in need.

It is not often that we come across such sad stories of cats being put in terrible conditions, usually their street lives are tough enough on their own. But in this case we feel fortunate to hear about one kitten who was put in a terribly dangerous situation, and in the nick of time saved and given a much better life than she could have ever hoped for herself.

For once her brave rescuer had gotten her hands on the kitten she decided she would bring it home with her to live amongst the many other cats that she has also saved and still feeds. Hoping that the cat community would take on this tiny feline and help it survive its early days. And with a good bit of luck that is exactly what happened. A happy ending for a story that started in the saddest of ways.

What was that? Oh, just a silly scroll of cat memes to lock you out of work for the next hour.

Many people struggle with work not because they are lazy, but because modern work often feels disconnected from meaning, autonomy, and visible results. Humans evolved engaging in tasks that had clear purpose—gathering food, building shelter, caring for community. The effort was directly tied to survival and shared life. These days, that's not always the case. Work nowadays can feel pointless, repetitive, or detached from tangible outcomes. When you can't see how your labor connects to something real, motivation becomes harder to sustain. But when you have a cat, everything suddenly makes sense.

There is also the issue of autonomy. Psychologically, people thrive when they have some control over their time and decisions. Strict schedules, surveillance, productivity metrics, and hierarchical management structures can make workers feel replaceable or constrained. Even in well-paid jobs, a lack of agency can produce resentment or burnout. The discomfort isn't always about effort; it's about feeling controlled rather than self-directed. Ever go to work feeling like you're a bird in a cage? Imagine how your cat feels sitting at home all day! Just kidding, they probably love that they can chill all day while you go off and pay their rent for them.

"Adopt me, adopt me!"

It's obvious when a cat wants to be adopted. They run up to you, they meow, bite, lick, and purr. And just like the kitty in this story, they get adopted from all their hard work! This cat runs up to a guy, screaming his little head off. He tried to run up his leg, and was an absolute goober. When the guy's wife comes home he tells her everything. It's a bit cold outside, and they decide to see how the little guy does inside their home office to create a barrier between him and the other cats. He seems to be doing well and they've already scheduled a vet appointment.

If a cat seeks out help from humans, it is doing so for a good reason.

Stray cats, more often than not, are afraid of humans. They have no interest in us. We are big and scary and loud, and if we don't watch our steps carefully, we might step on them. We're sure that every cat learns to stay away from us. So, if a cat asks you for help… you know that it wasn't their first choice. If a cat comes to you, walks into your home, looking for that warmth, it is doing it because it actually wants to do it. And that cat should be treated with kindness.

Of course, when this kitty broke into this person's home and ate their cat's food, the mother-in-law thought that she was doing the right thing, chasing the cat out. She didn't realize that the humans living there have already created a bond with the cat. And she certainly didn't expect for her son to run out into the storm, looking for that helpless kitty who came asking for help, and to come back with the kitty in hand, ready to make his home into the cat's new forever home.

In this world of HD, AI and 24/7 sensory overload, one thing that we constantly long for is familiarity and comfort.

Oftentimes, we find ourselves stopping mid-endless doomscrolling and daydreaming. We find ourselves thinking about the past, about how this sensory overload wasn't something that we were born into, that we grew up doing. We had the internet. We are of that generation. The internet came early enough into our lives that we can't quite imagine them without it. But it was different back then. Back then, they internet was slower. Simpler. Back then, all we had were simple and funny Lolcat memes and low-quality cat videos that made us smile like nothing else.

We thought that this was something that was mostly lost nowadays. We, here at ICHC, try to keep some of that pure feeling alive by continuing to make these silly and nostalgic Lolcat memes on a weekly basis. Because it matters to us. But that's just one piece of it. The magic wasn't only in the memes. It was in the bright and highly saturated videos, in the simple 60-second clips of cats doing simple things that we could relate to. No overlaying music to keep our ears engaged. No sharp cuts and effects. Just cats.

We would look those videos up sometimes - those iconic videos of cats that AI or nothing else could ever recreate. And we would think about how sad it is that we never see things like that anymore. Even the simplest home videos can't quite capture the feeling of those old homemade tapes that we had. But apparently, it actually is possible. Apparently, it wasn't the times that were responsible for these videos. It was just the video camera.

This week, we came across a viral tweet, talking about a person on YouTube who films their cats using an old 1999 Sony camcorder, about how those videos gave off that exact feeling of contentment and nostalgia that we are looking for. And we went searching. And we found it.

Simple videos. Calming, wholesome, full of just cats, saturated colors, and nostalgia. They are everything that we need in this world right now, and we hope these videos will continue gaining even more attention than they already have.

Any friend of felines is a friend of mine.

You purrabably agree with that sentiment, right? Have you ever heard that if a cat's like a certain hooman's presence, then you should trust that hooman? Cats are pretty picky with who they like and trust. So, if your wary feline takes a liking to a friend or date, that's a good sign! Of course, use your own discernment too… You never know these days!

Does anybody else feel like this never-ending winter has done a number on them emotionally, mentally, and physically? Not only do I feel like a lazy cat lying down for hours on end, but my skin feels dry, and I look as pale as a ghost! Since we don't have access to vitamin D at the moment, we'll have to settle for some vitamin C. You know, "C" as in "cats". Obviously. Scroll below to get your daily dose!

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.

The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.

Today marks the Chinese New Year, so Happy New Year of the Fire Horse!

It's also Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day if you prefer, so enjoy!

Toy Fair 2026 took place in New York, with nostalgia being mined to a level I don't think I've never seen before. Licences getting figures include the 1977 Battlestar Galactica, the original Duck Tales and even the 80's Tigersharks cartoon (Think Thundercats, but more watery).

Credit to Hasbro though, for announcing their 40th Anniversary celebration of The Transformers: The Movie by announcing their apology tour! :)

Sentai's first successor: "Gavan Infinity", a new take on Space Sheriff Gavan has debuted and... he's very shiny, isn't he?

Legendary screen actor Robert Duvall passed at 95 and better known for his TV work actor James Van Der Beek passed at 48, and I overlooked mentioning Catherine O'Hara's passing a couple of weeks back, but she more than earned an honourable mention.

I'd completely missed that there were a couple of trailers out for "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" Season 2: The first, and the final

Also, as I type this the news is coming in that Jesse Jackson, one of the original Civil Rights champions of the 60's has passed away at the age of 84.

But not to end on a down note, the first kākāpō chick in four years hatched on Valentines Day, the first of hopefully many to arrive this year to help bolster a critically endangered species. (Kākāpō only breed ever 2 to 4 years, and there are only 236 left, so it's a long slog for the poor things)

A grey tabby cat snuck into a bank, likely sniffing out some well-hidden treats, but instead of finding a treasure of tuna, he triggered the bank robbery alarms and spooked the humans!

Little did they know, this tabby cat had no malicious intent, only a meow that would melt the hearts of every first responder who arrived at the scene. Purrhaps this is one cat burglary that'll go down in feline heist-ory.

Every cat lover knows that cats can be mischievous, it accounts for about 90% of their natural kitty charm. Although they're born with a curiosity that could pawtentially become their demise, cats are confident and remain rambunctious even in their old age. Kitten curiosities don't expire with age, in fact, cats tends to become more tenacious as they get older, knowing that the humans will bow down to their every feline whim and woe. It's for this reason that many cats never know woes, only the unending love of a human caregiver who opens the tin can of wet food when they mew and pulls the laser pointer out at midnight when they cry for playtime.

Cats are capable of just about anything, and if you asked a cat lover how a kitty could break into a bank without as much as a single opposable thumb or higher cognitive thinking, they would offer a laundry list of kitty mischiefs that could lead to this outcome. While many humans would struggle to stealthily break into a bank, and while many of us daydream of the winnings from the comfort of our cubicles, this feisty feline accidentally burgled his way into the viral cat video hall of fame. Triggering the bank alarms of a small town bank, everyone rushed to the scene to help solve the crime. But the criminal? He was just a grey tabby cat who was following his curiosity instinct, wondering why all the humans had so much hype around this useless green paper.

Maybe this cat was onto something the day he became a bona fide cat burglar, or purrhaps he was just looking for the well-deserved attention that every cat needs.

If you thought owning a cat was enough to ensure it remains your own, then this story of neighborhood cat theft will surely make you think twice about letting your cat out to roam free.

It is something that so many of us feline pawrents have to grapple with. We want our cat children to have the best lives possible, and in places where the outside world is not too built up and dangerous, part of that good life is getting to enjoy the stimulation of being outdoors. Yelling at birds, chasing squirrels and hissing at dogs is just part and parcel of the cat's life and if you can afford to give your cat that freedom to do so, you certainly want to.

But there is a problem with doing so, and that is that the world is pretty wild out there, and aside from the other cats, foxes and large dogs out there, we also have to be worried about other hoomans doing things to our cat children. Which is exactly what happened to the poor pawrent in this story who had no other choice than to let her cat out to live its life. But a different hooman in the neighborhood had other ideas.

Here comes another healthy dose of cat memes purrfection!

In a world as chaotic as ours, where every day, something new and exciting and mildly terrifying happens, there are things that we need to keep ourselves sane. We have a list of things like that. We need our hot coffee in the morning, made exactly how we like it. We need our warm blankets with the exact level of fluff that we require. We need the people that we love around us - in measured but highly treasured doses. And more than anything, we need one thing. We need funny cat memes

Coffee is just in the morning, blankets are mostly at night, the people we love can be too much sometimes, but funny cat memes - that is simple purrfection. Any time of the day, no matter what is happening or what we are going through, we know that we can always take a quick break, scroll through some silly cat memes, and things will start looking up and feeling a bit better. It's the power of cats and the great power of the internet combined into one hissterically purrfect thing, and it is the one thing that we truly need to keep the chaos at bay.

If you've ever had a kitten, you know what it's like to be both full of rage and brimming with love and whimsy at the same time: That's the meowgic of cats.

Little goblins to the core, kittens are born to make mischief and adorable mews. Equal parts annoying and endearing, kittens embody the rambunctious and profound energy of a Tasmanian devil, swirling around the house at all hours (primarily before daybreak), and wreaking havoc on all hoomans who stand in their way. Leaving your ankles bare is a big mistake when there's a kitten around; expect to be clawed. And petting the tummy of a seemingly harmless kitten will lead to a similar outcome. And yet, when you crack open the canned food or a tasty gogurt treat, that kitten is placated and becomes your new best friend.

When they're eepy, hungry, or just feeling a cuddly mood swing, kittens are the most wholesome creatures on earth.

Curling up in the crux of your neck on the couch, or climbing up your pant leg to make it all the way to your arms, kittens combine their cuteness with their natural acrobatics, backflipping their way into your heart. Bonding with a kitten is easy, as a human's natural instinct is to care for tiny, helpless floofs with big eyes and a spindly tail. Cats don't always need us to care for them, but they love it, and cat lovers love it. It's a win-win. Kittens are no exception, tugging on our heartstrings as they play with a feather at the end of a line. Kittens remind us of the boundless energy and joy that reside in all of us.

Kittens are innocent, sweet, and well-intentioned; they're just getting the hang of their predatory instincts and the little knives on their hands. Soon enough, they'll get the hang of being a gentle soul, calming their little minds, and deciding that a cozy cuddle session in the big chair is far more delightful than bombarding the humans while they sleep. At least, that's what every cat lover tells themselves when their kitten is in the terrible teens stage. Don't worry, hun, your kitten whose purrsonality you cherish will only become more lovely and irreplaceable.

Because there's no cat like YOUR cat.
