I've been in fannish heaven this week and I'm sure it accounts for why I'm not fighting off the usual Friday evening need to nap. In fact, I'm feeling pretty darn perky. I've got a shiny new show to watch: Heroes. I finally saw the shiny not-so-new-but-very-pretty Swan Lake (Matthew Bourne production with male swans). The Quest Part 2 proved to be on-screen danielfic - hurt/comfort and Danny Whumping no less.

Heroes rambling...

I've fallen in love with Heroes. I suspected I would when [livejournal.com profile] elgrey described it. I grew up reading DC comics and I'm a sucker for friendships between men and brothers, so I was pretty much a guaranteed viewer before I'd even watched an episode. The first scenes got my respect - I'm not used to US tv shows having someone other than a white male selling their show and this show had a guy who was Indian and seemed to be the show's voice. Then we got to meet Hiro and Peter and I totally fell for the show. It's a big cast but I can't find a dud among them. All of the characters are interesting. Niki is the only character I'm not emotionally drawn towards in some way, but her situation is intriguing enough that I want to see how it develops. Claire the cheerleader is adorable, bless her cotton socks and pom poms. Matt and Hiro are sweethearts. Mohinder has dignity and passion and a prettiness to make angels weep with envy. Peter my tv toyboy and his brother Nathan have a complicated relationship that's fascinating to watch. The boy playing Micah is the perfect choice, a child actor that can act and isn't annoying or too cutesy. His relationships with his mother and DL feel real, though sometimes you wonder who is the grown up.

The sidekicks are interesting people in their own right, not just cutouts to make the heroes look good. The friendship between Hiro and Ando is as important an ingredient to the mix as any of the heroes' super powers and angst. Peter and Nathan's mother is clearly a strong influence in the lives of her sons.

The only problem I have with Heroes is that I've run out of episodes. This is the problem with coming into a show at the start. Add to this the last episode to air ended with an OMG Oh NOES! revelation for one of my favourite characters. No wonder I have no fingernails left.

Swan Lake was as wonderful on stage as I'd hoped for. Funny. Moving. Exhilirating. Beautiful. I only got the opportunity to see it because my boss had a spare ticket. I broke my glasses last week so I've been wearing my spare pair. I decided I had to wear my contacts so I could see properly (spare glasses are a prescription from a couple of years ago and a fraction weaker). Big mistake. I was crying at the end and I had to fight to keep my lenses from washing out of my eyes. :-P Just as well I wasn't driving. Swan Lake dvd is on its way to me so I can sob (loudly) in private.

Stargate SG-1's The Quest Part 2. There are lots of reviews and summaries out there so I won't bother with the plot points. Suffice to say:
* Daniel was stunning. Seriously beautiful. He and Vala must be boinking or he's getting nookie from Jack during secret meetings at Jack's cabin because the man is glowing. Oh, there's a thought. Maybe Oma's visiting him at night to show him her ascension skillz. No, Daniel, ascension doesn't involve letting Oma put her tentacles RIGHT THERE and no, sweetie, offering to glow you and make you see stars isn't going to give you a way to save Earth, though it might make it move.
* Daniel is special because Oma liked him, Merlin says so. Merlin also looks at him in a 'OMG you're the cutest puppy I've seen since Galahad - who you remind me of' sort of way. Daniel then proceeds to be whumped, to save everyone, to look amazingly hot yet vulnerable (all this without baring his feet at any time) and best of all gets comfort and Angsty Looks of Anguish tossed his way. Better than ice cream, I don't care what brand you choose.

There was other stuff. Teamy stuff. Other characters doing stuff. Running down tunnels stuff. Mitchell finally calling Daniel 'Daniel' in a soft voice to get his attention (Squee! Which worked - Cameron, take note and don't just save it for the bedroom). Sam punched Baal (yay!). To be honest, I was focused on the pretty. When the pretty is that GUH, who can blame me? Judging from comments around, I'd say I'm in the same Overwhelmed by Pretty state as many others.

Oh and one more thing. I LIKED the dragon. :-D
