We spent quite a while stood out on our drive looking at the moon just before and during totality through binoculars. We turned off our porch light, covered next door's porch light with a cardboard box but couldn't do much about the streetlights or the occasional car that drove past. Still we got a pretty good look at it and looked at the stars too.

Moon was oddly disappointing; it looked more as though a cloud had drifted across it than light was bouncing back and forth from Earth.
